The
Liberty Gold Series has been acclaimed for 150 years as
a classic symbol of
America's golden heritage. The Liberties
boast some of the most elegant coins
ever struck by the United States Mint.
The Liberty
design first appeared on U.S. gold pieces in 1838 and remained virtually unchanged
until 1908, making it the longest-running design in the history of American
coinage. The original design was created by Christian Gobrecht, who drew his
inspiration from earlier cents and U.S. gold coins.
The
$20, $10, $5, and $2.50 Liberty Gold pieces are truly majestic reminders of
the most defining period in American History. But these coins are even more
vivid reminders of our nation's past...they are also a valuable investment.
Most
of the original mintages of these coins have long since been victims of the
melting pot. Perhaps as many as 95% of these coins were transformed into
lifeless gold bars to make up America's gold reserves at Fort Knox, Kentucky,
when President Frankin D. Roosevelt made private gold ownership illegal.
Due
to their scarcity, Liberties boast a numismatic value
with a potential for
long-term appreciation, as well as the security of their intrinsic gold content.
And this set is an ideal starting point toward a 12-coin U.S. Gold Type Set
- a complete set of each regular-issue gold coin that circulated in America
from 1838 until 1933.
